March 27, 2002 (New York, NY) - United Media, a leading worldwide licensing and syndication company, today announced that HarperBusiness, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, Inc., will publish a new book by Dilbert creator and best-selling author, Scott Adams. Fasten your seatbelts, and enter the Weasel Zone in DILBERT AND THE WAY OF THE WEASEL, Adams' first major hardcover Dilbert book in four years, expected to go on sale in most major retail and specialty booksellers on October 22, 2002. To kick off the introduction of the new book this Fall, Adams will attend his first BookExpo on Friday, May 3rd, where he will sign books, as well as to demonstrate some of the unique and kooky features from Dilbert's Ultimate Cubicle, a joint project with industrial design firm IDEO.

In a nutshell, Adam summarizes the "Dilbert Principle" by stating, "A retarded chimpanzee can drink a case of beer and still perform most management functions." This hypothesis first appeared comprehensive, however, in DILBERT AND THE WAY OF THE WEASEL, he continues to explore the theory, and the result is a new and improved dialogue that explains not just the nature of management --- but also humanity. "There's a gigantic gray area between good moral behavior and outright felonious activities," Adams says in the Introduction to DILBERT AND THE WAY OF THE WEASEL. "I call that the Weasel Zone and it's where most of life happens. To err is human. To blame a co-worker is weasel."

DILBERT AND THE WAY OF THE WEASEL will be the fifth Adams book published by HarperBusiness, including The Dilbert Principle (1996), Dogbert's Top Secret Management Book (1996), The Dilbert Future (1997) and The Joy of Work (1998).

Dilbert, the United Feature Syndicate comic strip, is the most photocopied, pinned-up, downloaded, faxed and e-mailed comic strip in the world. Much more than just a wildly successful cartoonist, Adams is also an entrepreneur, producer and nonfiction author. He holds a BA in economics from Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y., and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. He has worked at a number of -- in his words -- "humiliating and low-paying jobs" involving technology and finances, including stints as a bank teller (he was robbed twice at gunpoint), computer programmer, financial analyst, product manager and commercial lender. He is also a certified hypnotist.
