UNITED MEDIA APPOINTS TIM WHALE TO VICE PRESIDENT, INTERNATIONAL LICENSING - JAPAN, EUROPE, AND LATIN AMERICA
Whale assumes responsibilities of overseeing strategic management of key international territories
New York, NY, March 29, 2004 -- United Media, a leading licensing and syndication company, today announced the appointment of Tim Whale to Vice President of International Licensing for Japan, Europe and Latin America. Reporting directly to Rita Rubin, Senior Vice President of International Licensing at United Media, Whale initially will oversee the overall management of the company's major business operation in Japan, United Media KK, with an mid-term focus on building the business in Europe and Latin America.
Whale joins United Media with a rich career history, including nearly a decade with Disney Consumer Products, where he served as Vice President in several different capacities, and was responsible for spearheading the company's book and magazine publishing business in the Asia Pacific and European regions. In addition, with Disney, he was responsible for launching a number of highly successful consumer products licensing businesses in emerging and new markets in Asia Pacific. Other career highlights include: helming the west coast based company, eDaycare, where, as CEO, he was in charge of overall management and venture capital fundraising; serving as Vice President, Publishing for Airclic, Inc., a U.S.-based technology company funded by Motorola, Ericsson and Symbol; and directing sales and marketing at Reed Consumer Books, working with such notable authors as Jackie Collins, Douglas Adams, Wilbur Smith and Michael Jackson, as well as with major children's brands such as Winnie the Pooh, Thomas the Tank Engine and Spot the Dog. Whale was also Managing Director for Dorling Kindersley Limited, the leading international publisher of illustrated reference books.
