New York, NY (June 21, 2005) It's been forty years since "A Charlie Brown Christmas" debuted on network television, instantly becoming one of the most popular holiday specials of all time. Written by Charles M. Schulz, with Bill Melendez directing and Lee Mendelson as Executive Producer, the show won an Emmy for Outstanding Children's Program, despite initial concerns about the show's leisurely pace, jazz soundtrack, religious theme, and use of children's voices. In December 2004, A Charlie Brown Christmas was named "Best Christmas Special," by TV Guide. It also ranked #1 in ratings across all key adult demographics (adults 18-34, 18-49, 25-54), teens 12-14 and kids 2-11, drawing 13.8 million viewers -- the special's best numbers ever on ABC.
