DIRTY DANCING’S 20TH ANNIVERSARY KICKS OFF WITH HOT NEW DEALS
Dirty Dancing’s 20th anniversary gets off to a sizzling start with Awake, a division of JEM sportswear, as the partner for trendy tees and apparel appealing to fans of all ages. Townley has jumped on board for HBA with a central focus on cosmetics, fragrances and bath and body products targeting tween/teen girls, women and men. Products will begin to roll-out Q4 ’06. In conjunction with the anniversary, Lionsgate will release a 20th anniversary DVD with special features supported by a national marketing campaign including a major publicity initiative. A reality television series hosted by Cris Judd will debut on the WE channel, a stage show that is currently running in Australia will hit the U.S., and of course there will be a Dirty Dancing fan website.


IT’S THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN!
It’s the 40th Anniversary of the classic Halloween special, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” and to celebrate Snoopy.com is hosting an essay contest asking fans to write in their worst Halloween experiences ever. Check out Snoopy.com for more information, as well as celebrity stories, trivia, e-cards and more. A slew of key partners have also jumped on the Great Pumpkin bandwagon. PepsiCo and Kroger will offer $6 off the 40th anniversary DVD release from Paramount Home Entertainment when consumers purchase $20 worth of participating PepsiCo products. Consumers will be able to find the DVD in specially designed merchandisers located in the entertainment section of participating Kroger stores. Fuji will expand its Peanuts offering with Halloween themed photo borders, and Harper Collins will release an all new coffee table book on the making of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” Look for additional partners to sign on as the 40th airing of the special on ABC draws closer.


UNITED MEDIA IS DRAWN TO DOODLE BEAR
United Media has partnered with Ed Kaplan Associates to represent the popular Doodle Bear property in the United States. Relaunched in 2004, Doodle Bear has been incredibly successful and is one of the top toys at retail and was recently named 2005 Holiday All Star by Toy Wishes. Initial focus is on complementary game and toy formats, arts/crafts, publishing, apparel and room décor.


THE FIRST EVER CHARACTER IMAGE ON A STAMP IN CHINA IS THE WORLD’S FAVORITE BEAGLE
To celebrate the year of the dog, the Chinese postal service has released a stamp set entitled Dynamic-Happy-Snoopy. With scenes of Snoopy traveling to Beijing, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, the collection is the first ever set of stamps to feature a character image in China.


EL CHAVO LICENSING PROGRAM EXPANDS IN THE U.S
El Chavo, one of the most-watched programs on Spanish-language cable television, continues to tap into U.S. Hispanic consumers with a growing licensing program. Some of the exciting and new El Chavo products that will be hitting shelves nationwide this year include apparel from Freeze, boxer shorts from MJC, headwear from Bioworld Merchandising, novelty stationery from Tri-Coastal, coloring and story books from Bendon, and bedding and plush pillows from Dan River. These items will incorporate either the retro look based on the live-action series or the new animated style which will be based on the cartoon version of the beloved sitcom.


IRON CHEF AMERICA HEATS UP
Columbian Home Products and Master Cutlery are creating cookware and cutlery lines for Food Network’s #1 rated series, Iron Chef America. Recently unveiled at Gourmet Show, products within these two key category lines will launch at specialty retailers fall 2006. As the program continues to unfold, United Media will expand strategically into other categories such as appliances, grills and textiles.


NOTHING WAKES YOU (OR SNOOPY) UP LIKE BADOIT
Snoopy and the people of France are waking up to the energizing bubbles from Badoit, one of the country’s most popular spring water brands from Danone. This clever and often hilarious campaign includes print and broadcast advertisements and will run throughout the year.



SWEET FAIRY PRINCESS
Precious Moments Inc. recently released a design supplement targeting preschool girls called “Sweet Fairy Princess by Precious Moments.” The art features the PM children dressed as fairies in playful poses and fanciful settings with creatures including butterflies and lady bugs. The key target categories include apparel and accessories, footwear, domestics, and HBA.


TEENS IN POLAND LOVE SNOOPY TOO
In April, BUTIK, a leading fashion forward apparel company launched trendy Snoopy apparel and accessories in Poland. With 100 doors throughout the country, young trendsetting women are clamoring for these cool designs. BUTIK’S latest Peanuts collection will land in market this fall.


JAPAN GETS HAPPY WITH IT’S HAPPY BUNNY
Since signing Jim Benton’s It’s Happy Bunny for licensing in Japan earlier this year, United Media’s Tokyo office has signed on several new deals. Delfino will create stationery for the bunny with an attitude. Gift items are making their way to the market thanks to Nakajima, and Nakazawa is on board for candy. Apparel and accessory deals are also on the horizon.


SWEET ON MARY ENGELBREIT
New to the Mary Engelbreit portfolio of licensees is Galerie Au Chocolat, who has signed on to create food and confection gift items. Gift sets and Easter baskets will include mugs, candy jars, totes, plush, tins, and more. Look for a range of different products in Galerie Au Chocolat’s Mary Engelbreit collection in virtually all channels of distribution.


EUREKA!
United Media has partnered with Bandai America Inc. to represent the licensing rights for Eureka Seven, the Japanese series which debuted in the US April 15th as part of Cartoon Network’s premiere anime block of programming, Adult Swim. Winner of three 2006 Tokyo International Anime Fair awards, Eureka Seven will launch initially with soft dolls, key chains, stickers, and pins from Great Eastern Entertainment fall ’06.


CHILDREN IN BRAZIL GET COZY WITH PEANUTS THIS WINTER
Lunender has launched a winter collection of children’s apparel in Brazil just in time for the country’s chilly season. Available in the mass market, the new line is a precursor to a broader licensing program that includes footwear and stationery.



DILBERT HELPS POSTAL SERVICE AND KEEPS FANS LAUGHING
Everyone’s favorite workplace hero will be featured on 88 million postcards from the U.S. Postal Service throughout ’06 to promote the USPS’ business to business shipping initiative. This fall, Hyperion Inc. will bring fans Dilbert: The Board Game which will allow players to take on the role of one of the characters from the comic strip as they attempt to avoid work, kill projects, screw over co-workers, and scramble for the best cubicle (as if there were a “best cubicle”!).


RAGGEDY FESTIVAL WELCOMED ESSAY CONTEST WINNER
The Raggedy Ann and Andy Festival in Arcola, Illinois welcomed Michelle Carter of Bass Harbor, Maine this year. Her trip to the festival was Michelle’s grand prize for submitting the winning heartfelt essay (which beat out hundreds of other contestants) in Raggedy Ann’s 90th Birthday Essay Contest, held in 2005.


TRENDSETTER SNOOPY STRIKES A POSE WITH VOGUE NIPPON
Always living the fashion forward lifestyle, Snoopy was highlighted in Vogue Nippon’s May feature “The World of White” as a special white plush with Swarosvki Crystals by Sekiguchi. As part of the promotion, Vogue created a trend setting “White Gallery” window display for the Shinjuku Isetan Department store in April that included the “Snoopy with Swarovski Crystals.” Fifty have been offered up for sale and retail for $450.

JAKERS! SCOOPS UP SOME MAJOR EMMY KUDOS AND TWO NEW KEY LICENSEES
This year brings great news for the popular PBS series, Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks as it took home two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children’s Animated Program and Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program. Apparel licensee Freeze has jumped on the bandwagon and will introduce toddler t-shirts for fall and will add onesies to the collection next year. Also look out for new coloring and activity products from Bendon Publishing this August.


YOKO! JAKAMOKO! TOTO!
Yoko! Jakamoko! Toto! (YJT) , the award winning pre-school series airing on Cartoon Network uses its rich blend of visuals, music and simple repetition of the characters names to make kids to laugh, imagine and celebrate life. United Media is building a licensing program for YJT with an initial focus on toys, publishing and videos.


MCDONALD’S PROMOTION FEATURING SOCCER IN ASIA
McDonald’s is running a Happy Set Promotion with SNOOPY in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore and Thailand which began May 19th and will continue through July 29th. The promotion will run for one month in each territory. The theme of the campaign, “SNOOPY Soccer,” will feature 8 kinds of soccer player style SNOOPY toys.
